STORY STORY
Shouts of Eshe o, Eshe o, Eshe o, arose from the King's inner chamber.
A child has just been born after 15 years of Olori's barrenness.
Although, it was a thing of Joy but the countenance of the women was of mixed feelings - of happiness at the birth of the child and sadness because she was a girl child.
As the king storms the room, Olori and the other women panicked for fear of the king's reaction.
But to the surprise of everyone, Oba Adewale carries the baby in his arms.
Beaming with smiles, he steps outside and raises her up to the sky; then he called her AGBARA.
****************************************
AGBARA, as beautiful as the early morning sunset,
eyes like an asterism of many twinkling stars,
Heart, so tender; yet, firmer than that of 7 sons,
Oh! her hands - effective than kétékété (the work donkey).
Her life is filled with so many challenges,
rape, forced marriage, gender bias and all kinds of abuses,
She is treated by the society with sheer injustice,
Yet, like a mighty Iroko tree she stands so firmly.
When she walks, her steps exude elegance
The smile on her lips is an outburst of luminance,
Out of her mouth, fired-words emits - she spits prominence,
The aura she discharges can be likened to a king's emergence.
They say her duties are in the _za oza_ room,
Oh, in the kitchen she will finish her education,
she has no right to have dreams and aspirations,
The top is vacant, but for the girl child, there is no room.
However, she is the last creation of the creator,
Formed after His rest; with so much vigor,
Same energy possessed by the creator; on her was breathed,
Little wonder why, the source of her strength, no one can figure.
She is a girl child - my own girl child,
In her womb, dwells the strongest of all men,
Her Heart like a canal, it overflows with love in abundance,
And when she is broken and in pains, she cries out strength.
Born and bred by a goddess (her mother) is this damsel,
The one with the royal scepter - her blood is blue,
In her eyes, I see passion, visions, potential and ideas,
She is my royalty and the precious apple of Eledumare's eyes.
AGBARA is a girl, she is an African Princess,
She will fight with the warriors if she desires,
Her hands will be taught to shoot the bow,
And her feet will run faster than the deer.
AGBARA is strength,
AGBARA is a girl child,
AGBARA is a slaying king,
You are AGBARA!
You slay, not just with your beauty,
But with your brain and creativity.
Happy International day of the Girl Child to all ladies. You are Strong!!!💪
