SPECIAL SUNDAY - Ye are gods!

3 ATTRIBUTES OF GOD A PERSON OF VALUE MUST POSSESS. 1. CREATIVITY: Innovation is a habit of God. He is a lover of creativity, and as such, science and technology are part of His plan for mankind. He bestowed upon every man the spirit of creativity so that man would continue the work of creativity from where He stopped. Creativity is the ability to perceive a need and develop strategies to solve that crisis. It starts from the mind – as an idea.  After it is birthed as an idea, it is spoken, just like God did in the book of Genesis. Ideas spoken out are not meant to be used to brag, but they are spoken with understanding of the power of words, and for the purpose of affirmation. Creativity is spiritual; constant affirmation stirs up the mind, building the faith that a seemingly impossible idea can become a reality.  If you want to be successful in life, you must endeavor that your thinking is not enclosed in a box – think without a box. Creativity is a spark....

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

INTRODUCTION  One vital aspect of our lives as human beings is the mental aspect;  unfortunately,  it is the most overlooked. It is no joke when the researchers say that well over 450 million people of the world's population is plagued with one disorder or another. Furthermore, one in four persons globally, suffer from a mental disorder at some point of their life. This is what the typical Nigerian calls "The 5 minutes madness". Owing to misinformation and the lack of urgency, many people do not seem to even know that they are victims of mental disorder. We hold an untrue believe that it is only when a person roams naked on the streets that he/she is considered mentally unhealthy. On the other hand, it is interesting to know that some of the strange attitudes we portray, but yet ignore are signs of disorders which tend to worsen if not attended to and may result in depression and suicidal thoughts. According to Wikipedia, mental health is the level of ps...

ENTITLEMENT MINDSET (Part 4)

Image
If you followed this entitlement series from the First Part  and observed from the  Part Two that you have an entitlement issue, here are 5 steps you can take in order to curb the mentality. Be open to reality: There are two realities that a person with an entitlement mindset ought to accept. First that you actually have an issue that needs your attention and second that no one owes you anything. If you want to come out of the web of entitlement,  you have to admit that entitlement sense is an error  that needs to be corrected. Reminiscing on the dangers of this mindset and realizing that you possess it will propel you to act on the other steps. Furthermore, you also need to chew and digest the truth that "No one owes you anything and the things you have are mere privileges". This believe is not meant to cause an undeserving feeling, but to make you appreciate whatever you are opportune to have. Put yourself in other people's shoes: En...

DANGERS OF AN ENTITLEMENT MINDSET Have you ever lost something of great value because of something else that probably matters less? Simi Odunmi, popularly called Boss Lady is a branch manager at Vetcom Solutions, a cooperation she joined barely a year ago. From childhood, Simi had always gotten whatever she wanted, in any way possible; so, scaling to the top of the ladder in such a short time was not surprising to folks who knew Simi. Simi is the perfect definition of bossy and whenever she wanted something, she went for it and got it. Although, this attitude is the major reason behind her success, but you know what they say 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely'. Simi did not notice that her attitude was damaging to her personality. This made it difficult for people to stay around, and as such she did not have any friends. Simi was the head of a branch with a 9 man team. She paid little or no attention to the needs and suggestions of her team, since she felt that s...

AFTER HE LEFT

I am seated on my bed, wide awake in the middle of the night. I am not working, neither am I watching a late night movie. I did not take coffee either, I am just awake - thinking about Relationships! Relationships!! Relationships!!! At times, I wonder why people assume that everyone in their life is replaceable. Thus, they tend to push away the ones who care about them. Sadly, they lose them (the ones who care), before they (the ones who push away), realize what they have done. A lot has happened in such a short while. I was asleep, but his call woke me up. He called to tell me that he misses me. Scoffs , so he does? Okay, I guess you are confused, so I'll start from the very beginning. I met him during the second semester of my second year in the university. At that time, I was not cut in for any relationship. But there was something  about Teddy, I still find it hard to figure out.  He was humorous, cute and had a lovely smile that could melt even the coldest ...

ENTITLEMENT MINDSET (Part 2)

SELF-CHECK Last week, we looked into the part one ( I should have it ) of this October series titled “The entitlement Mindset”. Today, our discussion will be based on signs and indications of an entitlement mentality. UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: At some point, you may have said or heard people say “I did not expect this or that”. One attribute exhibited as a result of the entitlement mindset is placing high expectations on people’s helping hand and feeling cheated when the expectations are cut short. You may then ask, is it wrong to place expectations on others? Answer is no, however, your attitude towards expectations ought not to be a type with a sense of entitlement. INGRATITUDE: When you fail to acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices made by others for your sake, then chances are that you have an entitled mindset. This is because you obviously believe that the efforts people put to do things for you is your right, hence there is no need to commend them for it. STAND IN F...

I was sitting at home one afternoon when my friend, Steph, paid me an unexpected visit. ENTITLEMENT MINDSET (Part 1)

DAMN! "I SHOULD HAVE IT" I want to take you through memory lane, to bring to your remembrance those habits you exhibited as a kid, but probably did not take to heart. Months ago, my little cousins visited me. They decided to spend a few days with my immediate family since they were on holiday. During their stay, I observed an attitude exhibited by the youngest among the three of them which incited my concern. Steph had the habit of always requesting for her share of whatever was given to her older siblings. She would always stretch out her hands and say "give me my own," and she would cry out loud and throw tantrums if she was not given. Do you remember those times when you used to say " give me my own ?” Do you know that it is this habit that has grown to become the "I am supposed to have it" personality trait? This trait is characterized by the entitlement mindset. According to Conservapedia, an entitlement mentality is a state of mind ...

CHEW OR GET CHEWED -  Counterattack secret to defeating any kind of fear Have you watched a soccer team being oppressed and playing defensive? And then suddenly, there is a breakthrough? In a split second, a player on the defensive team gets the ball and runs with so much vigor towards the goal of the opponent. In that respect is always a tough run for the ball by the opposition team, but in seconds, the ball is found at the back of the net. It's a goal! Do you know that your fears too can be counter attacked? One Saturday afternoon, I met someone at an ATM  stand who gifted me a book. He gave me that book because he noticed the curiosity in my eyes as I maintained a firm gaze at his hand. "Why was I staring at the book like that?" you'll find out shortly, just stay with me. I grew up with a mentality that witches and evil spirits always moved at night because they love darkness. Due to this reasoning, I had a phobia of being alone at nighttime. As a ...
