HOW DID SHE DO IT? - The Maud Chifamba Story

In the Spirit of the international girl child celebration, our icon for today and the first icon we will be showcasing on Practicalive is a young lady, who was able to make a good name for herself despite life's troubles - MAUD CHIFAMBA

Maud Chifamba was born on the 19th of November  1997, into a poor family in the Hunters resettlement community in Chegutu, central Zimbabwe in the Southern part of Africa. In 2002 when she was 5 years old, Maud lost her dad. Maud's mother was plagued with Cancer and as such could not cater for her and her younger brother.

The circumstances warranted Maud to stay with her step-brother, there she started her primary education. In grade 3, she was mistakenly given the question paper for grade 4, yet she scored 100%. In grade, she asked to be given the questions of grade 5, of which she has had the highest. She demonstrated a rare level of intelligence all through her primary school, and finished with flying colours; but, there was no money for her to further into secondary school.

Maud however, was determined to have an advanced education, so she home-schooled (she learnt at home, all by herself). She said there were some nights she did not sleep, she would study all through the night (without power supply). With the help of her brother's little proceeds from working on farms, she got a few books which she used in studying. And she completed her ordinary level in just 2 years; this was in 2009.

Later in 2011, she was identified by the ministry of education and was provided with finance to proceed to advanced level where she made exceptional results. Sadly, her mother died of Cancer in this same year.

In 2012 she gained entrance into the university of Zimbabwe to study accounting and was awarded a scholarship from start to finish of her university program. She became the youngest person to be admitted into the university of Zimbabwe, at the tender of 14. She graduated with Honors in Accounting from the University of Zimbabwe on 29 September 2016.  And in 2018, she bagged her masters degree from the University of Zimbabwe.

Maud was 5th on Forbes list of 100 youngest powerful African women. Also, her name was inscribed in the book of Africa records as the youngest university student in Africa.

Maud Chifamba is an inspiration to young African girls. She has undergone many projects, helping the less privilege.

HOW DID SHE DO IT?

👉 Maud did not feel entitled to the government, the society or the church because of the challenges she faced from when she was young.

👉 She had a goal, she set it in her mind and worked hard towards achieving the goal.

👉 After she was given the scholarship and admission to proceed into the university, she did not relent, instead she pushed harder and graduated with honours.

👉 She was able to turn her bitter situation into a sweet story.
